The fashion world continues to mourn the loss of Virgil Abloh, as Louis Vuitton ensures that its creative director’s latest work and legacy stay alive.
The garments in this collection show a style and casual elegance that looks beyond the catwalk and works as a precursor to the official Autumn/Winter 2022 collection and the second part of Pre-Fall 2022.
The collection is a clear reflection of Abloh’s creative approach. Virgil Abloh’s creative philosophy came from a generational analysis of what people wear and why they do it. And then his creative freedom to challenge himself and explore new territories.
Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2022 takes place in Lyon, where it acts as a photographic dialogue informing the sportswear and workwear inspirations behind this pre-collection.
Tailored pants take voluminous shape codes, modeled with blouses instead of blazers for a more relaxed aesthetic. Designs stay true to the house, like a black-tone wool varsity jacket with leather sleeves embossed with the LV monogram.
Among the collection stand a white leather and shearling bomber jacket, a bottle green biker jacket with leather panels, and a turquoise quilted jacket in the house’s quintessential flower pattern.
Relaxed tailoring sets the tone for the rest of the collection, echoing Abloh’s usage of oversized cuts and lightweight materials. The collection includes a blue pinstripe suit with Abloh’s signature hook closure; the stripes recall the Louis Vuitton stripes that historically covered Maison’s trunks. Abloh renews the idea of a three-piece suit, bringing formal wear to contemporary times. Although it still maintains a traditional silhouette, the combination fits with jackets, pants, and wrap skirts.
The second chapter of Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2022 men’s collection will be available in stores and online from March 2022.
