One of the best things we discovered on quarantines is a new way to travel. The world locked its doors and opened -through technology- windows for us to peek out. Make the most of this chance and explore these fantastic options to travel across the world, from the convenience of your home.
Incas’ Hidden Treasure
Settled more than 6,500 feet above sea level, in the Andes mountains, Machu Picchu is the most visited tourist destination in Peru. It is a symbol of the Inca empire and was built around 1450 BC. Machu Picchu was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1983 and was recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2007.
Regrettably, most of the cities built by the Inca civilization were destroyed during the Spanish conquest. Machu Picchu was found in what was a hidden location – invisible from below – and that is why it was not discovered, which makes it one of the best-preserved Inca cities and a true archaeological gem.
Mythical City
Petra is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. A representation of Jordan and its culture and therefore, one of the most visited tourist sites in this part of the world. Also known as the Pink City, due to the rare color of its stones, the Lost City remained hidden from the rest of the world until 1812. Petra is a place you need to see to believe. It is so extraordinary that UNESCO itself recognizes Petra as one of the most fascinating cultural properties in the world heritage.
This site is so mythical that today archaeologists and experts in the field have only been able to explore approximately 15% of its territory.
Place of legends
Without a doubt, this is one, if not the most iconic of Italy’s constructions. The Roman Colosseum attracts 4 million visitors to the city of Rome year after year. And it is that nothing exemplifies the majesty of the ancient Roman Empire as much as the Colosseum.
Built-in the 1st century, this emblem of Roman architecture is not only the largest amphitheater ever built but a representation of Italian culture. What was once home to gory battles between courageous gladiators, today continues to captivate the imagination of the public, and almost 2,000 years after its construction began, it is considered one of the 7 wonders of the Roman world.
Historic and imposing
The Great Wall of China is the largest in the world and the largest of the archaeological structures of the ancient world. Its complicated path runs through fields and mountains in the middle of settings worthy of a dream. From the beaches of Qinhuangdao to the tangled mountains around Beijing, to the desert corridors high up in the mountains.
The Chinese Wall is more than 2,300 years old and crosses through 9 provinces and municipalities. On a typical day between May and October, the Badaling section, which is the most visited, can receive up to 70,000 visitors a day. So this virtual tour is the best option if crowds make you uncomfortable.
Art and style in the city of light
The Louvre museum is probably the most famous in the world. It is not for nothing that it has been acknowledged as the most visited museum for many consecutive years, attracting nearly 10 million visitors each year.
It is important to mention that this museum is not only the most visited but also the largest. The Louvre was originally built as a grand fortress in Paris and later turned into a royal palace during the 16th century, before becoming a museum in 1793. Its doors were closed for some time when it was found that the original infrastructure of the construction was not fitting to receive so many visits.
This enclosure is so large that it is humanly impossible to visit the entire Louvre museum in just one day. In fact, after a month of exploring this space, it would not be enough to fully appreciate it.
If you spent only 30 seconds on each piece of art in the Louvre, it would take you 100 consecutive days to go through all the works. This would be without taking breaks to sleep, rest, or eat.
What are you waiting for? travel the world without leaving home.
