After more than three hundred individual exhibitions in thirty-seven countries, Karla de Lara is now the most recognized contemporary Mexican artist. Her work has earned her the recognition of art critics in Europe as the Mother of Hyperrealist Pop Art and prestigious national and international awards.
For Karla de Lara, the goal of art is not to represent the external appearance of things; but rather their inner meaning. Her sensitivity, coupled with her skills and unique artistic characteristics, has led her to exhibit her works in major art venues in Mexico and abroad and frame their spaces with her talent.
Among the national spaces adorned with the art of de Lara, the Francisco Goitia Museum in Zacatecas, the Mexican Stock Exchange, the Gallery of the Senate of the Republic, and the National History Museum of Chapultepec Castle stand out, to name a few.
Recognition of her talent has led her to receive grand awards such as the Gaviota «José Luis Cuevas» award for excellence in plastic arts, added to his title Doctor Honoris Causa; in recognition of his excellent performance and outstanding leadership in favor of the country, culture, and humanity.

The Mexican National Museum of History houses collections and objects of distinguished characters from Mexico’s history as mural paintings by Juan O’Gorman, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Dr. Atl, and Karla de Lara. The latter, called Visiones by the artist, is the first piece to become part of its permanent collection in the last 46 years.
De Lara has been awarded first place in the Biennial of Nations, becoming the first Mexican to obtain it. In the same way, she got awarded in Italy with the international award to the nations, Tribute to Titian; awarded at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia Palace.
In May 2019, she got invited by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome to Macro Asilo to display six works of art. One was created, in an atelier, set up inside the museum. Hundreds of visitors witnessed the creation process from start to finish of one of his exhibited works of art.
To recognize her talent, the Circle Foundation for the Arts (CFFA) gave her an Honorable Mention; by selecting her in its Top 10. Out of 1,072 artists from around the world.
Sicily is also a protagonist of her success by awarding her the Palermo Art Prize and making her the guest of honor at the Mussomeli Film Festival. She donated a mural to the Museum of Anthropology in that region.
For Karla de Lara, traveling with her art through Italy has been an evocation of her memories since she carried out part of her studies around art in that country. From a very young age, she imagined what is now a reality: exhibiting her works in the cradle of art, and what better than in Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi; next spring, this venue will be proud to display the exhibition, Frida Kahlo Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray.
Approximately fifty photographic portraits taken of Frida Kahlo comprise the exhibition. The photographs, dating from 1937 to 1946, explore Muray’s unique perspective; In the 1930s and 1940s, he was a friend, lover, and confidant of Frida Kahlo.
The photographs reveal Kahlo’s deep interest in her Mexican heritage, her life, and the people significant to her, the ones with who she shared a close friendship. Also included is the reproduction of the correspondence between the two.
The exhibition consists of 60 photographs and will be presented for the second time in Europe at the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi from March 5 to June 5, 2022. For the exhibition, Karla de Lara will present her most recent and significant work, having as its theme his vision of the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo.
Through more than ten large-format works, she will present her sensitivity and creative approach to colors and chiaroscuros that come together in her personal and unique technique. Displaying the creative duality that is part of her artistic proposal, in a powerful exhibition entitled: Anime intrecciate.
Karla de Lara’s exhibition will undoubtedly be a global vision and a narrative link to convey her perceptions to the viewer by showing looks, emotions, and experiences and linking its essence to the artistic wealth Frida Kahlo has given the world.
