Unveiled in Mexico City during a breakfast under the sun—perhaps the most fitting setting for a timepiece powered by light—the Pontos S Solar marks a significant milestone for Maurice Lacroix as the first model in the Pontos collection to feature a Swiss solar quartz movement.

More than introducing a new technology, the Swiss watchmaker has seamlessly integrated it into a collection long defined by robustness, versatility, and contemporary design.

Powered by Light

At the heart of the Pontos S Solar is the Ronda 215 movement, while the chronograph version is equipped with the Ronda 2040.D, both designed and developed in Switzerland.

Its concept is remarkably simple: a translucent dial allows both natural and artificial light to reach the solar movement. A full charge provides up to eight months of autonomy for the three-hand model and up to five months for the chronograph, while the battery is engineered to last more than ten years before requiring replacement.

The result is a practical, low-maintenance solution that delivers precision without compromising everyday convenience.

Maurice Lacroix retains the collection’s signature characteristics, including a 42 mm stainless steel case, a protected screw-down crown, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and 200 meters of water resistance, reinforcing its credentials as a true dive-inspired sports watch ready for demanding environments.

Its smoked dial offers 20–30% transparency, allowing light to pass through and continuously recharge the movement while preserving the watch’s distinctive appearance.

Maurice Lacroix uses a dual-color Super-LumiNova system that enhances legibility through visual hierarchy: blue illuminates the minute hand and the first fifteen minutes of the bezel, while green highlights the hour hand, indexes, and remaining bezel markings for intuitive reading at a glance.

Each model is also fitted with the Easychange system, allowing wearers to switch between a rubber strap and a steel bracelet without the need for tools.
