At a moment when Mexico once again occupies a central place in the global sports conversation, Mexican designer Daniel Espinosa unveils a new collection inspired by the Ancient Ballgame, one of the most emblematic traditions of Mesoamerican civilizations.
The collection was presented at Punto México, the tourism and cultural promotion space operated by Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism on Masaryk Avenue in Mexico City. Drawing inspiration from Mexico’s rich cultural heritage and the symbolism of the Ancient Ballgame, the pieces reinterpret this ancestral legacy through the lens of contemporary jewelry design.
The presentation brought together leaders from Mexico’s tourism, creative, and cultural sectors, including Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, designer Regina Dondé, as well as members of the media, opinion leaders, and special guests.
Considered one of the most significant rituals of Mesoamerican cultures, the Ancient Ballgame extended far beyond sport. It served as a powerful expression of identity, community, and worldview. Through organic forms, circular motifs, and sculptural details, Daniel Espinosa revisits this tradition, creating a collection that bridges Mexico’s cultural heritage with contemporary design.
In addition to the new pieces inspired by the Ancient Ballgame, guests had the opportunity to explore some of the designer’s most iconic creations, including those developed in collaboration with the Casa de Moneda de México. These collections have become known for transforming historic Mexican symbols into collectible jewelry and design pieces.
With this latest collection, Daniel Espinosa reaffirms his commitment to exploring Mexico’s history, identity, and traditions through design. Now available at Punto México, the collection creates a dialogue between cultural heritage, tourism, and contemporary Mexican craftsmanship.
