The presentation of the book Arte Popular Mexicano by the sociologist, psychotherapist, and great collector Dr. Miguel Abruch Linder, took place last Saturday, June 4, in the central plaza of the Museum of Art. People of Mexico City, among colorful kites, imposing alebrijes, and exclusive guests.
Organized by members of the museum’s board of trustees, this event intends to continue collaborating to promote in Mexico and the world the work of the best national folk artists opened the doors of this venue. And not only for the presentation of this book but to incorporate it along with the MAP Store.
To welcome the occasion, Alan Abruch – the collector’s son – shared what it was like to have grown up in a house with a basement full of devils, mermaids, skulls, and other dreamlike objects. He also thanked the patronage and the MAP for opening their doors for collections and proposals like these.
To represent the patronage, Master José N. Iturriaga de la Fuente – writer and member of the board -congratulated the collector and thanked him for the opportunity to share this treasure with the museum. A testimony of the miscegenation that identifies our land.
The writer and cultural promoter, Nicolás Alvarado, was also there. And with funny anecdotes and curious comparisons, he celebrated the work of the collector and the vision of Mexico and the Mexican folk art that he shares.
To conclude the event, Dr. Miguel Abruch thanked the work of the Museum of Popular Art and the support of some personalities present who made this meeting possible.
