Chopard Loves Cinema and proves it with the new edition of the Palme d’Or on its 25th anniversary

The Cannes festival is internationally acknowledged as the most lavish and probably most recognized on the big screen. This is somewhat due to the relationship he has had with Chopard for twenty-five years. Or a fifth of its existence. In celebration of the silver anniversary of this legendary alliance and the 75th anniversary of Cannes, the Swiss jeweler created a unique Palm. Placing the Palme d’Or with two leaflets set with diamonds on a rose quartz base.

Although the film festival was created in 1947, it was not until 1955 that the Palme d’Or was awarded for the first time. Before that, the highest distinction awarded was the Grand Prix. Today it is not only one of the most significant awards in the movies industry, but since 2014, is the first and only ethical film trophy globally.

The celebration of the 75th anniversary of the most prestigious film festival globally, with whom Chopard has had a passionate relationship for 25 years, made it necessary to create a superior Palm. Caroline Scheufele, artistic director and co-president of Chopard, decided to redesign the Palme d’Or by covering two leaflets with diamonds sourced from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewelry Council. The 75 diamonds embedded in one of these leaflets symbolize the jubilee of the Festival. In the other leaflet, 25 diamonds will immortalize the quarter-century since its association with Chopard: a double celebration in unison.

The Palm, of Fairmined certified 18-carat yellow gold, will not be placed on a rock crystal cushion as is traditional, but on a rose quartz base, a stone that symbolizes love.

In Greek mythology, this delicately veined, dusty pink gem was born in the very hands of Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love. Quartz, which comes from the Greek word krustallos, which means ice, was the ice of the gods.

Rose quartz has been chosen to symbolize the unconditional love that unites the Festival with films and Chopard with the Festival since 1997. When after a meeting with the then-president of the Festival, Pierre Viot, Caroline Scheufele left to redesign a new Palme d’Or.

Since then, Chopard has experienced this association as an authentic love story, inscribed in vows that the House continues to renew ceaselessly. Like this year with the motto that Caroline Scheufele has created for this Cannes Festival: Chopard Loves Cinema.
