Last October, the St Regis hotel on Paseo de la Reforma dressed up to welcome attendees to the 16th edition of the International Haute Horlogerie Mexico 2022 Exhibition. A spectacular meeting of the best in the world of Haute Horlogerie, which on this occasion received a record number of exhibiting brands, fifty-seven no less, and more than 3,500 visitors.

The International Haute Horlogerie Exhibition (SIAR) Mexico confirmed the optimism and the place it holds for the sector in return to normality after the pandemic. The stars of this year were the multiple launches of novelties worldwide and unique pieces and limited editions created especially for Mexican customers.

The growing interest of younger generations in mechanical watchmaking was clear. A sign that the future of the industry is secure. SIAR 2022 confirmed that watchmaking in Mexico emerged stronger from the pandemic. This year promises to exceed the record performance of 2021.

The presence of 57 firms is a sign of the dynamism of the national market, as is the copious attendance of guests and many experiences, events, and launches of novelties held during the Hall.

During the three days, distinguished figures from universes other than watchmaking, such as sports, who naturally coexist with it, met. Such was the case of Hublot, who presented its Big Bang E Mexico Edition smartwatch. The official watch of the National Team that will participate in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup; at a press conference attended by football personalities like Gerardo Tata Martino, Head coach of the Mexican team, Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Soccer Federation, and legendary former soccer players Jared Borgetti and Luis Hernández. Likewise, a special guest at the launch of Epic X Chrono’s Never Surrender, the Jacob & Co. collection dedicated to the country, was Julio César Chávez, the greatest Mexican boxer of all time.

For its part, Montblanc brought together Mexican mountaineers Viridiana Álvarez and Juan Diego Martínez at its booth to present the 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen LE 290 and the 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen LE 1786, their innovative oxygen-free watches. Álvarez was the first woman from the American continent to climb the three highest mountains in the world, and Martínez is the youngest climber to have climbed Everest. Lastly, Cuervo y Sobrinos, the brand of Cuban origin, was accompanied by its new ambassador, freediving legend Pipin Ferreras.

The brands turned to develop unique creations dedicated to the Mexican market like never before; along the previously mentioned stand the splendid pieces Ultrathin Tourbillon Icons of Mexico by Arnold & Son and Escape Skull Cactus Green by Purnell. The limited editions Octo Striking Tourbillon Mexico Edition, by Bulgari; L.U.C Skull One Calavera Pop Art, by Chopard; Wristmons Skull, by Konstantin Chaykin; Hedönia Chaac, from Le Rhöne; Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein x Jumboon; Maya Eclipse, by Louis Moinet; Turbine Mexico, by Perrelet; Hydrosphere Bronze Cenote, from Reservoir, and El Charro, from Seven Friday.

Other highlights of SIAR 2022 were the launch in the Mexican market of the Grand Seiko house. The flagship of Japanese high-end watchmaking, and the first jewelry pop-up in the history of the SIAR, with the participation of Damiani, Messika, Roberto Coin, and Vhernier, whose success promises an expansion of specific proposals for women in future editions.

The protagonists of the sector gathered at the SIAR agreed that the point of maturity that the national watchmaking sector has reached requires that the Hall take the next step in its evolution. Brands have realized that a market that lives off local customers and whose sales are steadily increasing offers the most organic and healthy way to grow.
