With despair in heaven

Reading Time: 2 min.

Between March 2021 and March 2022, there have been approximately 10 FEMINICIDES DAILY. However, we are not figures or data. We are complete universes, we are stories, we are loves, we are heartbreaks, we are families, we are complex, and we also have our differences: we are the women of the first nations, trans women, women domestic workers, women deprived of liberty, women with disabilities, neurodivergent women, women sex workers, women of the LGBTTTQ+ community, women of African descent, mothers, women caregivers, brown women, white women, we are women of all ages, women who fight for the decriminalization of abortion WE ARE ALL.

We flew a 50-meter zeppelin in the sky with the phrases 10 FEMINICIDES DAILY, and NONE FORGOTTEN because we believe in the political importance of naming our reality and giving a name to our feelings.

We protest with pain in the sky against the daily murders of women –for the simple fact of being women– and we do it from the heights to be closer to our sisters. The zeppelin flew over five emblematic points of Mexico City: the Diana Fountain, the Winged Victory, the Senate of the Republic, the Monument to the Revolution, and Fine Arts.

With this action, we publicly express being fed up with impunity. We want to start a conversation; so that as a society, we question gender-based violence and urge the authorities, once again, to listen to us.

We fly WITH DESPAIR IN HEAVEN because we are all in heaven. We fly because the sky has no owner or government. We elevate because, in the sky, there are no geographical borders, just as there are no borders on time or between life and death. We rise because we are all in the heights. From heaven, we speak to them, and we talk to you, to everyone. Our murdered sisters live in each one of us, they exist in our memory and our bodies: none of them have been forgotten.

We demand JUSTICE for the families of the victims. Until the authorities listen to us, until there are concrete actions by the State, we will not stop protesting against the Feminicidal Mexico in which we live. As women, we have always been told; what to do and how to do it. They also told us what not to do and how not to do things. They put up walls, fences, and grenadiers for us. They tell us that you can’t make pints, that you can’t break or burn things: then we also go up.  We rise to heaven because, in heaven, there are no limits. And because there WE ARE EVERYONE.
