Global trends, what is the Color of the Year?

For more than 20 years, the Pantone Color Institute has chosen a color to represent the trends of the coming year and the relationship between culture and color. Color experts include members of the entertainment industry, art, fashion, design, and its many aspects -among others- who study trends, technologies, materials, textures, and effects impact on color to decide the Color of the Year. Almost anything can influence this decision. It is a long, global and analytical process. Sometimes, as in the case of Color 2022, Very Peri, if they can’t find the exact color to convey the message desired, the Institute creates it.

The Color of the Year is relevant in all areas of design; A hue that can express an environment, an attitude, or an emotion, in most consumers. A shade that reflects what people are looking for and aims to respond to their needs. Unlike other trends, the color of the year speaks of the spirit of a time on a global level. Not just what happens in one country or another. The zeitgeist.

Color is the most powerful communication tool. It is the first thing we see and the first thing we feel connected with; It is a visual language that we all understand and expresses what words cannot.
