In the year celebrating the 50th anniversary of the classic Royal Oak, Swiss Haute Horlogerie maker Audemars Piguet has unveiled its latest technical R&D breakthrough, the RD#3, with the Royal Oak Extra-Flat Automatic Flying Tourbillon.

This 39mm diameter and 8.1mm thick stainless steel anniversary model is the first Jumbo tourbillon model in history. It also introduces the Manufacture’s new ultra-thin automatic tourbillon movement, caliber 2968, measuring just 3.4mm and featuring an unprecedented combination of traditional and contemporary manual decorations.

To create this watch, the watchmakers at Audemars Piguet have overcome various technical challenges while paying particular attention to aesthetic details. This innovation is home to the caliber 2968, an ultra-thin, self-winding flying tourbillon movement that is the fruit of five years of development.

The limited space required new planning for this automatic flying tourbillon to reduce the thickness needed to house the complication by relocating key components.

Equipped with a peripheral drive and the tourbillon cage is titanium. The combination of these two elements not only makes the power distribution in the tourbillon more fluid and helps to lighten and thin it.

For an even more memorable visual experience, the 50th-anniversary logo and the Audemars Piguet signature rest engraved on this 22-carat rose gold mass, conceived especially for the anniversary of the Royal Oak. An unmissable investment for lovers and collectors of Haute Horlogerie.
