The Mille Miglia first ran in 1927, but in keeping with its never-aging reputation, this year’s event features a new route and will take place over five days instead of the usual four. For the first time, the race included a stage from Parma to Milan, a city never before included in the Mille Miglia.
The new Mille Miglia editions present four new models made with Lucent Steel™ exclusive to Chopard. The 40mm Chopard chronographs are strapped with the House’s signature rubber, based on the pattern of a 1960s Dunlop racing tire or a rich brown calfskin strap reminiscent of traditional driving gloves.
What makes this year’s Mille Miglia Classic Chronographs extra special, however, are their dials. Each of the four variations is inspired by paint hues and interior finishes typically found in the type of cars from before 1957 that are eligible for the 1000 Miglia. That means a choice of Rosso Amarena (cherry red), Grigio-Blu (blue-gray), Verde Chiaro (light green), and Nero Corsa (racing black). Following a 36-year tradition, each watch bears a miniature «Mille Miglia» route marker on its dial and case back.
In addition to the Mille Miglia Classic Chronographs, Chopard has produced a unique version of its largest Mille Miglia GTS Chrono. Being made from Lucent Steel™ in just 100 pieces, part of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to the victims of the devastating floods that swept through the Emilia-Romagna region in early May. This 44mm edition sports Italy’s green and red colors, with its olive green bezel featuring a tachymeter scale for speed and distance calculations. Further marking the ‘form and function’ nature of Chopard’s Mille Miglia watches, the Mille Miglia GTS Chrono Limited Edition Italy is fitted with substantial ‘mushroom’ pushers and a large diameter crown to provide a firm grip and ease while running.
