For Summer 2027, Louise Trotter turns lightness into possibility, allowing tailoring, leather and Bottega Veneta’s unmistakable craftsmanship to breathe, move and become something more personal.
Some collections arrive defined by a trend. Others begin with a feeling.
For Bottega Veneta Summer 2027, Louise Trotter chose the latter.
Living in Milan has made the passing of seasons particularly tangible for the British designer: the changing light, the city gradually shedding its layers and, with it, the way people move, live and dress. But in Trotter’s hands, shedding layers is not simply about revealing more skin.
It is about leaving space.
Summer as a Possibility
At the heart of Summer 2027 is an almost physical idea: allowing air to exist between clothes and the body.
Suits lose their rigidity. Silhouettes move away from the body. Trousers gain movement. Even leather — one of the materials most deeply embedded in Bottega Veneta’s identity — becomes remarkably light.

On the runway, that philosophy appeared through relaxed tailoring, open knits, macramé, crochet, draping, fringe and garments that seemed to transform as they moved.
The interesting part is that Trotter does not need transparency to communicate lightness.
Instead, she finds it through construction and texture: leather that behaves almost like fabric, open weaves that allow glimpses of the body underneath, oversized woven bags and fringed pieces whose shapes shift with every step.
Freedom here is not necessarily about exposing the body.
It is about allowing it to move.
Intrecciato Becomes an Idea
If there is one word capable of instantly evoking Bottega Veneta, it is Intrecciato.
Summer 2027, however, invites us to see it as something beyond the House’s signature leather-weaving technique.
Material is woven. But so are ideas, disciplines, gestures and people.

That idea expands throughout the collection in leather, crochet, knots, embroidery, fringe and intricate surfaces where the evidence of the human hand is never entirely erased.
And that distinction matters.
At a time when luxury often strives to demonstrate absolute perfection, Bottega Veneta seems increasingly interested in demonstrating human touch.
Imperfection becomes evidence.
Masculine, Feminine and Everything In Between
One of Summer 2027’s most compelling ideas arrives almost quietly.
Definitions begin to loosen.
Not because Trotter wants clothing to become neutral, but because she proposes something considerably more interesting: the freedom to move between positions.
An oversized trench can meet florals. Tailoring develops curves. Traditionally masculine codes soften through draping, weaving and unexpected proportions. A deeply feminine silhouette can emerge from the severity of a suit.

Perhaps this is one of the clearest signs of the Bottega Veneta Louise Trotter is beginning to define.
Not by abandoning its codes.
By setting them free.
Craft Without Nostalgia
There is also something distinctly contemporary about Trotter’s approach to craftsmanship.
She does not treat craft as nostalgia for how things were once made. Instead, she uses it to imagine how we might want to dress now.
Leather becomes thinner. Intrecciato opens up. Woven surfaces allow air to pass through them. Fringe reacts to movement. Familiar structures begin behaving in unfamiliar ways.

It marks an important evolution.
This is beginning to feel less like Louise Trotter interpreting Bottega Veneta and increasingly like Louise Trotter defining her Bottega Veneta.
Even the Space Was Woven
The conversation between art, design, and craftsmanship did not end with the clothes.
The show took place on September 26 at Fabbrica Orobia in Milan, inside a white space accompanied by a sound installation created by German artist Florian Hecker and played through 20 speakers.
Guests — including Julianne Moore, Tyler, The Creator, and Jacob Elordi — sat on benches created by artist Illya Goldman Gubin from hand-compressed cardboard boxes, later reinforced with fiberglass and transparent resin. Handcrafted leather flowers placed on top became small objects for guests to take with them.
Even the set seemed to follow the collection’s own logic: take something familiar, allow its process to remain visible, and transform it through human intervention.
Wear Less, Feel More
There is one idea in the collection notes that could almost serve as its manifesto:

It is not necessarily an argument for minimalism.
It is an invitation to remove what is unnecessary.
Summer 2027 still carries the precision, leather, Intrecciato, tailoring and extraordinary craftsmanship that make Bottega Veneta instantly recognizable. But Louise Trotter allows all of them to breathe.
And perhaps that is the collection’s most seductive proposition.
Luxury does not always have to mean adding something more.
Sometimes, it means leaving enough space for something to happen.
