Casa Dragones Mizunara, the first ultra-premium tequila aged in Japanese oak barrels

Reading Time: 1.4 min.

In 2009, from the rich volcanic soil of the lowlands of the Tequila Valley, Jalisco, the history of ultra-premium tequila changed forever with the introduction to the world of Casa Dragones’ young tequila. Fourteen years later, the renowned tequila house presents a new expression to revolutionize its category. The first tequila aged exclusively in new Mizunara oak barrels. An ancient and exclusive Japanese oak

Casa Dragones Mizunara Reposado is the first tequila aged exclusively in new Mizunara barrels. A rare oak of Japanese origin, traditionally used to age whiskeys. Continuing to explore the relationship between agave and different types of wood, Casa Dragones imported its first Japanese barrels in 2018, with the adamant purpose of experimenting with them and thus finding the benefits that will complement the characteristic notes of Casa Dragones.

With meticulous attention to detail, Casa Dragones began working with the only independent Japanese cooperage to create new barrels made from 100 percent Mizunara oak, especially toasted to age this novel spirit.

Rarer than European and American oak, Japanese oak typically produces only half as much wood as other oaks. Characterized by their twisted trunks and branches, these ancient trees can grow up to 200 years before they are harvested and hand-crafted into the highest-quality barrels in Japan.

After resting in this unique wood, Casa Dragones Mizunara Reposado offers subtle notes of magnolia and orange blossom on the nose, with notes of apricot and ganache on the palate, and a warm finish with notes of coffee beans and mild spices.

In addition to being innovative, the spirits of Casa Dragones are committed to modern and sustainable production. The Tequila Regulatory Council has recognized the novel Casa Dragones process as the most sustainable tequila production method. It uses less water and energy than other methods and produces much less waste. In addition, the agave fibers are recycled and turned into fertilizer for their fields, while the vinasses, or liquid residues from distillation, are used for irrigation.

Casa Dragones Mizunara Reposado tequila finds the perfect balance between the minerality of agave with the soft and silky notes of Japanese oak to create a refined and elegant sweetness that defies the established.

Casa Dragones Mizunara Reposado Tequila will be available nationwide in October and can be purchased online at casadragones.com.
