This June 25th, renowned Mexican artist Isaac Hernández becomes the first Mexican to grace the stage of the legendary Metropolitan Opera House (MET) in New York as part of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) cast, marking an unprecedented milestone in the history of ballet.
Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Hernández is the first Mexican to achieve the rank of principal dancer within ABT, one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world. On this occasion, he performed the role of Albrecht in the classic ballet Giselle, accompanied by ballerina Isabella Boylston, one of ABT’s leading figures.
This debut is not just mine. It belongs to my parents, my family, and my teachers throughout my training, starting with my father. It’s a way of reminding the world that excellence can also be born in the backyard of a house. Circumstances should not determine destiny, declares the dancer.
This event not only represents a milestone achievement in the dancer’s career; it is also a source of pride for Mexico and a source of inspiration for new generations of artists aspiring to excel on prominent international stages.
Isaac Hernández’s upcoming performances at the Metropolitan Opera:
July 2nd – The Winter’s Tale with Hee Seo
July 5th – The Winter’s Tale with Hee Seo
July 14th – Swan Lake with Catherine Hurlin
Isaac Hernández will return to Mexican stages next August 30th at 8:30 p.m. at the National Auditorium as part of the show Despertares, now celebrating its eleventh edition.
