The fashion world is full of iconic details that began as a distinctive touch and sometimes become hallmarks of large firms. As examples, it is enough to consider the famous Burberry print, the Chanel quilted or tweed, the Bottega Veneta knots, or the legendary red sole of a pair of Louboutins. An icon of the catwalks and fashionistas that this year celebrates its 30th anniversary
There is no sole in the world as famous as the crimson Christian Louboutin. Thirty years ago, Christian Louboutin appeared on the fashion scene shortly after opening his boutique in the center of Paris. As in the great fables, the stars aligned to coincide with the passage of an editor from an American magazine who visited the area looking for locations and the exact moment in which the Princess of Monaco was in an art gallery near the local. Passing by, the editor found the Princess delightedly looking at the beautiful stilettos that adorned the window with the first Louboutin collection. Immediately, buyers poured in from all over the world, and red soles began to conquer the runways and Hollywood premieres.
The iconic sole was born in 1993 from the creative inspiration and ingenuity of Christian Louboutin, who, upon receiving one of the early prototypes of a silk shoe called Pensée from the factory in Italy, considered that what was in front of him paled before what he expected. The shoe and its black sole seemed boring to him at every angle he looked. The black sole made him feel a void that he needed to fill. Once again, luck and inspiration were on his side, and when he saw that his assistant painted her nails in bright red, spontaneously and with a touch of genius, the designer asked her for the bottle and began to paint the sole at the spot.
According to Louboutin, the original idea was to change the color of the sole each season. But at some point, a client told him that she had met the most charming man when he saw her on the street because of the color of her shoes. At that moment, he decided to keep the red and be a part of great stories like this one.
For Christian Louboutin, red is a constant visual reminder of empowerment; red stands out. Red is a symbol of love and seduction. Both are endless sources of inspiration and fascination for Christian Louboutin.
