Selleria and Fendi, the return to its pillars

Reading Time: 2 min.

Less than a year before the celebration of Fendi’s first centenary, to be celebrated in 2025, the prestigious brand explores the fundamental pillars that distinguish them and gives prominence to the saddlery selleria to share the roots of the brand with leather goods, the importance of craftsmanship and the prominence of sewing in bags and clothing.

In the Spring/Summer 2024 Women’s collection, FENDI’s past is present in recurring codes and motifs that date back to the beginnings of the Italian brand. The common thread of Selleria’s saddle stitch unites all the categories of the present collection and takes us back to the past of its fashion and leather goods.

From its initial inspiration and creation by Roman master saddlers, FENDI Selleria 1925 finds form in bags and leather garments to eventually metamorphose into metallic thread hardware in shoes and is reiterated in the FENDI Filo jewelry by Delfina Delettrez Fendi, artistic director of jewelry at FENDI.

Instigated by Fendi founder Adele Fendi, grandmother of Silvia Venturini Fendi, the Selleria was one of her initial projects for the brands’ leather goods. Determined to work with Rome’s master saddlers unconventionally, Adele Fendi made this wish come true with the original incarnation of Selleria almost a century ago. Using craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation, hand-stitched waxed thread, and distinctively grained Cuoio Romano leather, the Selleria of then differs little from the Selleria of today.

In Silvia Venturini Fendi bags, Selleria’s Cuoio Romano leather, stitching, and savoir-faire find their home in the iconic Peekaboo and Baguette and the new Mini Fendessence hobo bag. In a striking palette that reflects the colors of the clothing collection, Selleria can be found in a rainbow of colors, including the house’s blue, yellow, vermilion, and browns, all in the soft, grainy sumptuousness of its characteristic leather together with the rigor of its artisanal construction.
