Thanks to the invitation of the Fashion Group Institute of Mexico, Statement had the opportunity to be present at a Master Class given by Jacopo Cozzi, Director of the Fashion Styling programs at the headquarters of the Marangoni Institute in Paris, entitled Back to the Future: Visual AI for fashion Image, as part of the efforts of the group and its board of directors to bring new technologies and the opinion of experts closer to the members of their group.
Among those present, the presence of Ricardo Rotondo, Art Manager of the Marangoni Institute, the director of the group in Mexico, Zaira Marino, Molén Antolin, Bianca Rentería de Gabriel Samra, Gabriela Gorab, Paola Moran, and more stood out.
The class began with an overview of the current situation in the world of Artificial Intelligence and a concise explanation of the current perception of it, mainly divided between the fatalists and the indifferent. Cozzi explained to those in the virtual class that Artificial Intelligence is a trend, a marketing tool, and an advantage that people can capitalize on. He stressed that it is paramount to know that the keyword in AI is not Intelligence but Artificial.
A clear example is that artificial intelligence depends on a visual heritage to create something new. In AI, images only make sense through literal references. It can’t understand concepts like sarcasm, irony, or metaphor, or discern between values.
Like all creatives, artificial intelligence borrows references from something already seen, but it is still necessary to guide it by hand to create a result as expected. In this expert’s opinion, artificial intelligence will not change the world more than the evolution of the portrait to photography, at least not with what we know today.
This class has been one more of the efforts of FGIMX to share new knowledge and support with the members of this group.
