Meditation is an ancient practice that provides physical, mental, and emotional benefits, but did you know that this practice is also beneficial for dogs? Yes, you and your best friend can meditate together, relax, and improve your coexistence even more.
But what is meditation for dogs? It is sitting with your dog and trying to achieve a calm and conscious state of mind together. At first, it can be a little complicated, especially if your pup is usually intense and not used to relaxing with you. Don’t worry if your puppy doesn’t stay still. With practice, you will achieve better results.
Doing this practice together can strengthen your relationship and form a deeper connection. The best time to meditate together is when your dog has previously used up energy, so the perfect time is after a walk or training session.
To begin, find a quiet, calm, warm, and comfortable space. Get a mat or soft surface and a cushion for your dog so you are both relaxed and find a comfortable position for both. Start focusing on your breathing, count your inhalations and exhalations, and concentrate on breathing in four counts. Inhale, pause, exhale, pause. Each repetition will help relax your mind and focus on your body and the here and now.
As you relax, think about your relationship with your puppy, how you care for him, and the joy he has brought you. Pet your puppy, run your hands down his spine. Start in the center and let one hand reach his little head and the other towards his little tail.
Some of the benefits that both will obtain from this practice are:
- Reduce stress and anxiety.
- Improve your emotional well-being.
- Improve your memory and concentration.
- Reduce pain.
- Increase trust between you and your puppy.
- Help improve your dog’s behavior.
To learn more about this practice and share some of the activities that Wellness Palacio and Aristopet offer their clients, the terrace of the Palacio de Hierro Coyoacán invited doggies like Alfred the Puppy, Tifa, Peyton Manning, Enzo, Rosalía, and more, to who, accompanied by their best friends, enjoyed a morning of meditation taught by Mariana Sakar (Mars Yogi) and presented by Wellness Palacio, Aristopet and Born. Keep an eye on the Wellness Palacio networks to learn more and be part of opportunities like this.
