Tenth Edition of IluminArte

Reading Time: 2 min.

Autism is a neurodivergence as unique as each person, as different as a work of art and the artist’s intention. No two people on the autism spectrum are alike. Likewise, no two pieces were alike, nor was there a better opportunity to help and contribute than at the tenth edition of IluminArte for Lincoln.

IluminArte is an altruistic auction to raise funds for Iluminemos por el Autismo. A non-profit organization dedicated to creating and promoting socially impactful actions that improve the quality of life of people with ASD and their families.

Art auctions for charitable purposes are a great demonstration of solidarity and humanism. In this way, in addition to motivating the development of art and supporting the work of Iluminemos por el Autismo, it also promotes the visibility of people with ASD by creating conversations about inclusion and raising awareness within social culture.

During the auction, directed by experienced auctioneer Memo Martínez, sixty-seven works by various national and international contemporary artists were available, including Rodrigo de la Sierra, Carlos Abascal, Carlos Génova, Diego de Erice, JoCa, Karla Rojo de la Vega, and other leading artists selected by the curatorial committee, comprised of Carlos Algara, Mimi Cervera, Odette Paz, and Paulina Villareal, founder and director of Iluminemos por el Autismo.

Among the featured artists was event ambassador Ana Paula Ahumada, who received recognition during this edition. Ana Paula is a non-speaking autistic person who has communicated through the Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) for nine years. This method uses signs, a keyboard, or writing to facilitate communication. It allowed her to discover a new way of communicating with her family and welcome the doorway to sharing her knowledge of literature and philosophy along with her already recognized painting skills.

Also present was Otto Martín Moreno as the honored artist. Through his work, he merges the worlds of architecture and industrial design. He works with diverse materials such as wood, metal, plastics, and resin to create abstract forms, giving a different approach to everyday objects.

During the event, attendees also had the opportunity to participate in various experiences, uniting art with the culinary and automotive worlds. They were delighted with various canapés created by IluminArte’s executive chef, Lula Martín del Campo, and discovered firsthand the features of the new 2025 Navigator, along with the star sponsor Lincoln.

The audience enjoyed a moving speech by Gerardo Gaya, director of IluminArte for Autism, thanking all the members of the IluminArte board, the participating artists, and our sponsors for being part of another edition, joining forces for a great cause, and thus being able to continue the mission of IluminArte for Autism.

Why it’s important to talk about ASD:

In Mexico, 1 in 115 people has ASD, according to the only study conducted in our country, promoted by ASD Speaks and CLIMA (2016). Furthermore, the incidence of diagnosis increases by 17% each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States. Worldwide, 1 in 100 people has ASD, according to studies conducted by the WHO.
