From January 16 to February 15, you can visit El Palacio de los Palacios “Punto de Partida. Modas, plots and textiles”. An exhibition curated by Ana Elena Mallet, museography by Javier Marín, and the gaze of 50 participating fashion designers who offer us 100 silhouettes made of a raw blanket looks designed as test sketches before venturing to the final garment.
This exhibition comes from Uruapan, thanks to El Palacio de Hierro and the Javier Marín Foundation, who, since 2017, set about creating a Cultural Center in the emblematic San Pedro Yarn and Weaving Factory on the banks of the Cupatitzio River in Uruapan.
Fifty fashion designers from all over Mexico joined the call to create this exhibition. Creators like Alejandra Quesada, Benito Santos, Carla Fernández, Carmen Rion, Mut, CIHUAH, Héctor Serna, IVán ävalos, Macario Jeménez, MANCANDY, Pink Magnolia, Sandra Weil, Yakampot and more. They gather to fulfill the mission of creating three complete silhouettes or looks in a raw blanket, evoking a toile, a muslin, a retor, or a tarlatan, which are the sketches or test garments that designers and couturiers make with to make changes before venturing to the final garment.
These silhouettes refer to the cotton cambaya, one of the traditional materials of the Purepecha plateau, alluding to blank canvases that can be painted, embroidered, lined, and imagined with different solutions.
Take advantage of the last days to visit Polanco and surprise yourself with this exhibition.
