Humor, satire, a history of surrealism, animals, human passions, and mystery make up the 58 drawings dated from the 18th century and signed by the court painter and precursor of impressionism Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (Spain, 1746-France, 1828), in the exhibition at the Museo Casa León Trotsky in Coyoacán, until February 26th.
The collection curation is by Darío Ortiz (1968), a Colombian writer and collector who has lived in Mexico for almost ten years. The exhibition begins with Goya’s first «whim»: a self-portrait that shows the painter of the Madrid aristocracy in profile with a hat, followed by dozens of images, including image journalism, lies of art at the service of truth so characteristic of the Spanish artist.
Los caprichos is the first of 11 shows in the 2023 exhibition cycle organized by Picturis by Darío Ortiz, Artists’ Container by Gabriela Andrade and Luigi Fantini, and Museo Casa León Trotsky under the direction of Gabriela Perez to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the death of the revolutionary Russian hosted by Mexico. The meeting is at Avenida Río Churubusco 410, Coyoacán, Museo Casa León Trotsky.
