In a globalized world, the great fashion capitals are no longer only found in Europe and America. In March, talent was present in the Russian capital and on the catwalks of Moscow Fashion Week 2024, bringing together more than 120 global designers.
The gathering of global talents and emerging markets featured an impressive lineup not only from Russia but also from Brazil, Indonesia, China, India, Turkey, South Africa, Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Egypt.
With local brands witnessing 10-15% annual growth in the Russian fashion scene, the event promises an opportunity for international brands to showcase their latest creations and create business links across borders.
Moscow Fashion Week shines during its weeklong run thanks to a global range of more than 200 designers, from local natives from Russia to participants from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This event stood out as the most standing fashion meeting of the BRICS countries and obtained recognition as one of the paramount fashion weeks on the international circuit.
A highlight of the week was the great diversity of influences that shaped the latest collections, from the cold of the Arctic to the warm shores of Thailand. Costa Rican designer, Ivonne Garita, presented a collection driven by slow fashion and environmentally conscious concepts, signaling a broader adoption of sustainability among Russian designers, with brands such as LESEL, Kseniia Wang, Maria Rybakova, GRUSHEVAYA, and BEENA. They advocate environmentally conscious practices.
A partnership with Brazil Immersive Fashion Week saw Brazil’s AO brand present tradition-steeped garments with corsetry and fabric sculptures as African influences were represented by South African brands Boys of Soweto and DOPE store, mixing traditional design with elements such as printed in Bantu language with contemporary fashion sensibilities.
Collections by other Russian designers like Abzaeva were inspired by the ancient tales of shamanic cultures, bringing such narratives to life with advanced technologies. INNIKI, a Russian brand from the cold city of Yakutsk, unveiled its collection at Moscow Fashion Week, inspired by the intricate fractal patterns of the Lena River Delta in Yakutia.
Moscow Fashion Week has consolidated its status as a fundamental event, not only for showcasing Russian fashion of sartorial craftsmanship but also for facilitating an intercultural exchange on its catwalks, emphasizing punctuality, an iconic characteristic, the events of the week’s agenda unfolded without delay, highlighting both Russia’s commitment to the arts and its global connectivity in an evolving fashion landscape.
