Four years do not pass in vain; those are enough time to achieve results, to see how an idea transformed into a great project, and to have the power to transform lives, as has happened with Original, a project of love for Mexico and its folk artists, which has established itself as one of the best cultural proposals globally to honor, recognize and elevate the work of these great artists and give value to the time, work and traditions that exist in each craft.
From November 14 to 17, 2024, the fourth edition of the Original meeting will take place at the Los Pinos cultural complex in CDMX. More than a meeting point between artisans and buyers, Original has positioned itself as an extraordinary platform to empower artisans, give value to their time and work, and position the crafts and traditions of First Nations in the exemplary place they deserve before the world.
In the words of members of its committee, Original is the university of artisans since this platform has taught them not only to value their art but also the value of their time, work, traditions, and legacy.
In addition to its spectacular catwalk, Original will have the Original Hall, where the exquisite work of 81 master goldsmiths will be available on sale, the Gran Plaza Original, dedicated to textile art, Plaza Jacaranda to find the best accessories such as bags and footwear, The House of Dyes, to discover the most incredible ancestral techniques of natural dyeing; Casa Original to get the best traditional decorative and practical art and the second edition of Original Escuincles with workshops and activities for the whole family
One of the fundamental purposes of Original is to value the work of all First Nations and to be the bridge between cultures to link brothers from other First Nations. This year, this platform will have the presence of more than 100 international embroidery masters to hold the Original Embroidery Meeting in coordination with UNESCO.
Of course, the grand Original catwalk will glow, inspired by a beautiful poem by Natalia Toledo and set to music by the Onix ensemble, directed by maestro Felipe Pérez Santiago. As if that were not enough, attendees can easily purchase the clothing and accessories that walk the catwalk by visiting the Atelier Original, where they will find the best works of popular art to take home.
Original Encounter is a project carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture; four years after its foundation, it has achieved incomparable results and great successes, such as the first textile seedbeds. Furthermore, the head Secretary of Culture, Miss Claudia Curiel de Icaza, shared candidly with Statement media that she will soon surprise us again with new aspects and projects to continue promoting Mexican folk art.
