Love and pop art meet in the new version of Longchamp’s iconic Le Pliage bag in an iconically inspired proposal that celebrates the shared values of graphic simplicity, creative design, and vibrant colors in a collection that combines the emotional resonance of Robert Indiana’s universal message with the appeal of the iconic Le Pliage® bag.
Robert Indiana played a pivotal role in assemblage art, hard-edge painting, and Pop Art with works exploring American identity and the power of language. Indiana’s LOVE image with its stacking format emerged in 1964 in a series of frottage drawings that Indiana created and sent to his friends. The artist later developed his concept through a series of paintings, sculptures, and prints, which made LOVE an icon of the 20th Century and one of the most recognized works in the world.
Longchamp is pleased to present Longchamp x Robert Indiana, a tribute to the American artist, featuring Indiana’s evocative LOVE artwork on its iconic Le Pliage® bag.
Love is universal, a positive message understood around the world. For the Robert Indiana Legacy Initiative, it was fundamental to commit to a brand that respected the integrity of the artist’s work and truly appreciated the impact of Indiana’s genius with color and form.
The capsule comprises the LOVE image in three different color combinations, adapted to Indiana’s original works, on Le Pliage® canvas in travel size, shoulder bag & pouch, and two new square iterations of the purse in tote size and mini crossbody. As for the leather part of the collection, Le Pliage® carries the LOVE image embossed in three monochrome combinations. It also takes shape in a cowhide keychain printed in red on a white t-shirt and gray cotton sweatshirt, both unisex. Meanwhile, a silk scarf pays homage to Indiana’s fascination with numerology, with its brightly colored numbers.
Based on Indiana’s translation of LOVE in different media, languages, and colors, the collection also includes exclusive bags that interpret additional works by Indiana.
The collection will be available at Longchamp points of sale and online at Longchamp.mx starting October 31.
