The Swiss watchmaker unveiled the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons in Mexico, a limited-edition collaboration that transforms one of contemporary art’s most recognizable sculptures into a timepiece. Statement attended the presentation, which brought together Hublot executives and guests including Ludwika Paleta, Oswaldo Sánchez, Oribe Peralta and Jared Borgetti.
Some works of art are instantly recognizable, even to those unfamiliar with the artist behind them. Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog is one of them. What begins as a simple balloon animal becomes a monumental sculpture with a mirror-like surface, and one of the most recognizable symbols of contemporary art.
Now, that familiar silhouette finds a new scale in Swiss watchmaking.
During the 2026 edition of the Salón Internacional Alta Relojería (SIAR), Hublot presented the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons in Mexico, translating the American artist’s sculptural language into a timepiece designed to be worn on the wrist.
Statement attended the presentation, where we had the opportunity to photograph the watch and document the gathering of brand representatives and special guests.
Jeff Koons and Hublot: When Sculpture Becomes a Watch
At the heart of this collaboration is Balloon Dog, a work from Koons’ Celebration series, which the artist began developing in the mid-1990s.
The sculpture transforms an object associated with childhood, fragility and play into a monumental work with an industrial appearance and an immaculate, reflective surface.
For Hublot, reinterpreting this artwork meant going beyond simply placing the image of a balloon dog on a watch dial.
The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog translates the sculpture’s visual language into the architecture of the watch itself, using rounded volumes, convex surfaces and details that evoke the tension of an inflated object.
Its 42 mm case, sapphire crystal, screws and even the strap contribute to this distinctive aesthetic.
Among its most recognizable features are a crown inspired by a balloon valve, a decorative detail recalling the balloon’s knotted end, and a seconds-hand counterweight shaped like Koons’ iconic dog.
The result is a timepiece that remains unmistakably connected to the artist’s universe while retaining Hublot’s watchmaking identity.
Three Versions of the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog
The collection comes in three interpretations: one in mirror-polished stainless steel and two in red and blue anodized aluminum.
Their colors and reflective surfaces establish a direct connection with Koons’ sculptures, while the construction translates their distinctive shapes into a much smaller format.
Each version is limited to 200 pieces.
The watch features an automatic movement and a rotor designed to continue the rounded visual language found throughout the exterior.
Beyond its technical specifications, the collaboration raises an interesting question: how can the identity of a work of art be translated into a functional object without reducing it to a decorative motif?
Here, the answer lies in the construction of the watch itself.
The collaboration generated immediate interest among collectors. According to information shared with Statement, the pieces sold out shortly after their international launch, meaning the watches displayed at SIAR 2026 arrived in Mexico already sold. The presentation offered a rare opportunity to appreciate a creation worth examining up close.
Hublot Presents the Balloon Dog at SIAR 2026
The arrival of the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog in Mexico formed part of Hublot’s participation in the 20th edition of SIAR, held in Mexico City.
The event brought together international watchmaking brands, collectors, specialists and industry representatives to discover the latest developments in fine watchmaking.
During Hublot’s presentation, Statement had the opportunity to examine the timepiece up close and observe the details that distinguish this collaboration.
The gathering also brought together Hublot executives and special guests, including Ludwika Paleta, Oswaldo Sánchez, Oribe Peralta and Jared Borgetti.
The presence of figures from entertainment and sports was part of a celebration where watchmaking, art and the city’s social scene came together around one of Hublot’s most distinctive creations of 2026.
A Collaboration Connecting Art and Fine Watchmaking
The relationship between Hublot and Jeff Koons reflects a shared interest in experimenting with materials, forms and manufacturing processes.
The Swiss watchmaker has built much of its identity around the concept of the Art of Fusion, while Koons has spent decades exploring the transformation of everyday objects into works of art.
The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog brings these two worlds together.
Rather than attempting to replace the experience of seeing an original sculpture, it explores how its forms can take on a new function and meaning.
The collaboration also includes the MP-14 Origin by Jeff Koons, a highly complex watchmaking creation that explores another dimension of the American artist’s work.
The Balloon Dog, however, has a particular quality: its silhouette is immediately recognizable, even when transformed into a wristwatch.
The Art of Giving Time a New Form
In an industry where mechanical precision often dominates the conversation, Hublot and Jeff Koons offer a different perspective.
The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog retains its function as a timekeeping instrument while introducing a sculptural dimension that invites a closer look at its shapes, surfaces and details.
Its presentation in Mexico brought this collaboration closer to collectors and audiences interested in the intersection of art, design and watchmaking.
For Statement, the occasion was also an opportunity to document the gathering between the brand and its guests, as well as the details of a timepiece that is difficult to overlook.
Because with the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog, time is not only measured. It also takes shape.
More information about the collaboration is available on the official Hublot website.
