Contemporary dance is the result of the fusion of other dances that find their basis in classical ballet, but this art is exempt from the rigor of this discipline. Unlike classical dance, contemporary dance acquires a pure body expression of movements. This dance is an ode to freedom and expression of the soul beyond language and culture. An example was the ninth edition of the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Mexico City, FIDCCDMX, which took place from August 6 to 13.
This discipline breaks the norms established by classical dance and prioritizes the story transmitted to the viewer, sharing emotion in a free explosion of movements. Presentations such as Lorca, the Last Poem, En Código Bolero, la dulce limerencia, and Telar invited the audience to reflect on such powerful topics as freedom, loss, and injustice in moving and unforgettable presentations.
Large cultural venues such as the City Theater, the National Arts Center, the Spain Cultural Center, and the recently inaugurated Scenic Garden, among other large stages, raised their curtains to present great exponents of this discipline from countries such as Greece, Cuba, Argentina, the USA, Israel, North Macedonia, Chile and more dazzled and moved the audience with their performances.
This event is possible thanks to the vision of the enormous talents and creative geniuses of Mexico, Rodrigo González and Raúl Tamez, the team at La Infinita Compañía, and the support of sponsors such as Eleven11, mezcal Oro de Oaxaca, Enrique García, Magda and more.
