Buenos Aires was decked out to kick off fashion’s grandest season in Argentina. As expected, great personalities from the catwalks gathered at this fab meeting to learn about the new trends presented at the 60th edition of Argentina Fashion Week. Our expert, Lucía Miranda, and her Fashion World were present to share all the details exclusively for Statement.
The party began with Francisco Ayala, who presented his collection «Urdimbres» in the Hall of Honor of the Palacio Paz in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Warps is the title chosen for its autumn-winter 2023 collection, as a tribute to the long tradition of knowledge of weavers, artisans, textile artists, tailors, and dressmakers and also to the woven goods that the Manos Andinas firm makes every year for the capsule «Ayala-Andina» in the province of Catamarca.
The proposal shows outfits that stand out for volume and color with cozy pieces to wear in many ways. The trapeze silhouettes are very wide, and the quilted hems give structure to the striking hemlines worked with different designs.
An extraordinary proposal in which urban Ponchos are woven in llama fiber, with zippers and velvet-lined hoods, create genderless, timeless garments for all ages and inclusive of all bodies. Performance coats to be sported during the day or with party wear.
The wedding dress is a stellar piece and a synthesis of all the proposals in the collection. A gold silk, crocheted top, with 19th-century lace applied as a bib and embroidered with raw llama fibers that emerge from the front, back, and sleeves as if they were small feathers. Below, a trapeze dress in ecru silk taffeta falls with a train from the top, forming a sculptural volume armed by the large quilting of the hem, entirely hand-painted with golden designs.
Francisco Ayala is one of the benchmarks of Argentine Haute Couture and President of the Argentine Chamber of Fashion. His designs intend to increase and promote knowledge of Argentine culture by designing coats and dresses created with social, cultural, and environmental traceability to generate a triple impact.
For the Argentine creator, true luxury lies in respect for the artisan, culture, and environment. And that, precisely, is his proposal for this collection.
