Chopard and its commitment to the planet and sustainable luxury

Reading Time: 2 min.

At the rate at which we are, preserving the planet is the grandest luxury that exists. Today, more than ever, reducing our environmental impact and significantly reducing our carbon footprint is a commitment that leading firms must assume so that others can follow suit. This is the case of Chopard, the French luxury house, which since 2010 has carried out campaigns and efforts to preserve the planet and today announces itself as the first luxury house to use 80% recycled steel for all its steel watches, reducing So your carbon footprint.

By the end of 2023, Chopard will use Lucent SteelTM in all its steel watches, including bracelets and cases. Lucent SteelTM; is manufactured with a recycling rate of at least 80%. Chopard intends to achieve at least 90% recycled steel in its Lucent SteelTM by 2025. This commitment will allow Chopard to reduce its steel’s carbon footprint.

This announcement builds on the existing Lucent SteelTM – launched in 2019 with the iconic Alpine Eagle watch and is made from 70% recycled steel – marking a key next step in a multi-year project towards a more responsible.

Chopard’s search for sustainability does not compromise the exceptional quality or properties of the materials that make up its watches. Chopard’s Lucent SteelTM is created from high-quality industrial waste from Swiss watch manufacturers and high-quality steel from the medical, aerospace, and automotive industries.

The unique recasting process that gives rise to Chopard’s Lucent SteelTM endows it with three prime characteristics:

  • It is antiallergic; its similarity to surgical steel means it is highly dermo compatible and suitable for even the most sensitive and delicate skin.
  • Second, its strength makes it 50% more abrasion resistance than conventional steel, making watches inherently more sustainable.
  • Finally, its superior homogeneous crystalline microstructure allows it to reflect light in a truly unique way. Like a diamond, whose brilliance depends on the lowest degree of impurities, this very high-performance steel has far fewer impurities than conventional steel, ensuring shine, luster, and sparkle comparable to gold.

Refining the composition and manufacturing of steel with these unique properties took more than four years of research and development and working with suppliers to ensure a sufficient volume of high-quality recycled steel to implement Lucent SteelTM. in all Chopard collections.
