The 2024 Art Week showed proposals in the most surprising settings, like the collective exhibition No se vende. A collective exposition in an impressive mansion in the Historic Downtown of Mexico City, once owned by Don Porfirio Diaz.
During the exhibition, Alessandra Migliano, curator and art expert at Galería Errante, told us about the old cash registers, intervened by Betsabée Romero, who was present at this event presenting her incredible «Armored» box to the press guests.
The machine or cash register, an element of the past, present, and future and a key piece in progress and human transformation, is a device created in the glare of the social, economic, and technological transformations triggered by the Industrial Revolution and invented in the mid-19th century due to the need for business owners to keep track of sales and cash flows and prevent employees from theft.
Symbolically, the cash register is part of a broad universe of understood values that have shaped the contemporary view of capitalism and its cultural effects on society.
To generate an exhibition that provokes critical reflections on human evolution works by renowned artists such as Betsabeé Romero, Barry Wolfryd, Cisco Jiménez, Antonio Gritón, Bradley Narduzzi and Nestor Quiñones, among others.
In addition, Nicole A. Pierpont, curator, presented figures such as Astrid Haddad, who also accompanied us, showing several pieces/costumes from her various performances. Nadia Guitteau, from Casa Mimí, exhibited art and interior design.
