From Coyoacán with love, a tribute to great women of value

Reading Time: 1.4 min.

Once again, women’s month closed with a lot to share. Not only was the long-awaited march on Paseo de la Reforma probably the most crowded and emotional in a long time, but increasingly, the sense of commemoration of the date has echoed in society and has opened doors to new forums, opportunities, and recognitions; as an example, it is enough to mention the emotional tribute from the Coyoacán Delegation, its mayor and team paid to three extraordinary women who represent the tenacity, commitment, strength, and dedication of women. Coyoacán celebrated Women of Courage, a tribute to Karla Wheelock, Mariel Hawley, and the enormous social work and commitment of the great lady Kena Moreno.

On a hot March afternoon, the Coyoacanense cultural forum, Hugo Argüelles, dressed in gala and purple to welcome the members of the Big Band of the Single Union of Music Workers SUTM, who delighted the audience with music alive, accompanied by two lovely female voices. Between songs, the evening passed happily, and the delivery of tributes began with an emotional message sent by video from the great Mexican mountaineer Karla Wheelock.

Female strength and tenacity were celebrated then with the presentation of the unstoppable Mexican swimmer, mother, businesswoman, and leader, Mariel Hawley, who addressed those present with a powerful speech and invited them to discover and conquer their oceans and fears.

Of course, the most anticipated moment of the occasion came when paying tribute to one of the most fundamental pillars of society and lifestyle in Mexico, an unstoppable woman who, from a very young age, has given priority and impulse to the service to others, whether as a public official, editor, philanthropist and through her inspiring work in the Youth Integration Centers, of course, the extraordinary and unique, Mrs. Kena Moreno.

All the honorees received emotional recognitions from the mayor’s office, from Mr. Giovani Gutiérrez Aguilar, mayor of Coyacán, the General Director of Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination, Desirée Navarro and her team, in an initiative that celebrated the best of the women of Coyoacán and Mexico, while inviting sisterhood and recognition of female talent and perseverance.
