Every November 14 marks World Diabetes Day, a global reminder of the importance of early diagnosis, prevention, and proper treatment of one of the most common health conditions in Mexico, affecting over 10 million people.

“Insulin is not a punishment; it’s a tool that replaces or complements the body’s function when the pancreas can no longer produce it properly. Using it shows commitment to one’s health,” explains Dr. Sandra Garduño, general practitioner at Fundación CTR.

Common misconceptions include fears of weight gain or dependence. However, Dr. Garduño clarifies that insulin does not harm the pancreas or cause addiction — instead, it helps preserve remaining insulin-producing cells and promotes better metabolic balance.
Another frequent mistake is believing that starting insulin means a setback. In reality, it is a preventive measure that keeps blood sugar levels stable and protects vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, and eyes from long-term complications.

Fundación CTR encourages people to get informed, overcome fear, and consult healthcare professionals for personalized guidance. Education and medical support remain the strongest tools to dispel myths and improve the quality of life for millions living with diabetes.
