The metaverse is the source of inspiration that has provoked designers and all kinds of creators to give life to new collections and pieces in which textures, colors, and shapes get reinvented in marvelous colors, and imagination knows no limits. The best example is Regina Romero’s SS23 Spring Summer 2023 collection. A fabulous proposal inspired by a virtual universe where reality mixes with fantasy.
Once again, the prodigious mind of Montserrat Vega, Regina Romero’s creative director, found a way to unite the best of the past with the hope that the future offers. For this new season, she proposes a scene from the metaverse from the point of view of retro-futurism. To convey this proposal, the talented designer took the natural elements of the footwear and intervened with them in different ways.
The magic begins with the color palette, where hyper-realistic pastels in blue, pink, green, and purple tones, intense shine, liquid textures, and finishes stand out. The shades are selected to contrast with more natural and familiar colors, evoking the fusion of two opposite concepts to create a mixture of reality with the virtual.
In addition, the natural element of the footwear, the leather, was intervened to achieve ultra-metallic and glossy finishes, engravings of different styles of animal print with raised scales, textile plates, and even the design of a texture inspired by the Van Gogh technique in his work Starry Night, in the Aura model.
The use of fittings is minimal because the main protagonist of the collection is the play of color and the intervention of the skins. The silhouettes take inspiration from retro-futuristic currents of the ’60s and ’70s by Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges and even in the fashions of the cartoon «The Jetsons» of the same era, ranging from streamlined silhouettes and sleek, ergonomic designs to monochrome colors and exaggerated geometries.
